The location can vary by manufacture but it is usually located back near the fuel tank.



These usually can not be cleaned they are replaced.



Some of the newer model vehicles require a special tool to release a quick disconnect fitting on the filter to remove them. Others require a common wrench. Again, this varies by manufacturer and year.



Replacing the filter may or may not solve your acceleration problems. It will only help if your fuel filter is dirty to the point where the engine is starving for fuel under acceleration.



If you don't know what you are doing, you could have problems replacing this filter. Modern fuel injected engines have high pressure in the fuel lines. This pressure should be released before removing the filter. Also, on some engines, the fuel pump could automatically start when you disconnect the fuel filter. It is best to disconnect the battery or at least remove the fuse to the fuel pump before starting any work. Do the work in a well ventilated area. No smoking in the area.
