Under vehicle, center, below rear seating area, rear passenger side of fuel tank, mounted in fuel line

Crawl under this location and see how accessible it is. But when you disconnect the lines, gas spurts out all over the place unless you first relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel injection rail on top of the engine. How do you remove a Nissian 2002 extara's fuel filter?

I already know where the fuel filter is I just need to know how to remove it.......How do you remove a Nissian 2002 extara's fuel filter?According to the manuals, it looks like a screw clamp or a spring clamp, but I know it is rarely these ones (I don't know why the pictures show these). Most likely it has a release like the pressure fittings from plastic joints in house plumbing. The collar needs to be pulled (or pushed) from it's position, then it just pulls off. One thing that might be keeping it there is the fuel line pressure. Make sure to pull the fuse or the wire to the fuel pump then start the car until it stalls out.. this will take most of the pressure off those lines (and the release mechanism). After install, they should push on and not pull off.

After eliminating the fuel line pressure, push the fuel line toward the filter first, this should loosen things up (and sometimes release it on its own).

Will a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?

This mechanic tried to tell me that my fuel filter was put on backwards, but wouldn't that be like plugging the line, therefore preventing any gas from flowing? I drove it for a year before he told me this and I am having trouble understanding how that is possible. Will a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?Your Mechanic is correct, But the fuel will flow in either direction through a fuel filter.

However it is designed to flow better, for longer, in only one direction. Think of the filter screen as a cone inside the filter. If the fuel flows from the large end towards (%26amp; through) the pointed end, the trapped particles (the things the filter is designed to stop getting into the engine), will gather in the centre of the cone, in the main flow. This will soon tend to block the flow of fuel. The fuel is designed to flow in to the filter towards the pointed end of the cone (screen). This way the trapped particles get pushed outwards along the side of the cone until they gather around the outside circumference of the filter. This is much less likely to clog up the filter prematurely. Thus full fuel flow is maintained for much longer.

TonyWill a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?I do hope he replaced it and didn't just turn it around. the fuel filter traps harmful particles that can damage your engine, i/e rust, and any other foreign particles that have slipped into your fuel tank.

Yes the vehicle will run with it backwards, depending on the model and the type fuel system that it has. Very few have a check valve in the filter since carburetters have been obsoleted. Will a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?yes a car will run with the fuel聽 filter on backwardsWill a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?like tires some are directional some not...some will stop a engine some filters dont care....most have an arrow on themWill a car run if the fuel filter is put on backwards?Depending on location, vehicle, ect, there aren't too may problems with putting it on backwards. Either way its not a hard fix. The inside of the fuel filter is just to stop debris anyway, a few screens, you know? so does it really matter if its one way or another? I don't think so. I hope he didn't try to charge you to put it the other way, or anything like that, if so, you got ripped off.

How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?

I am trying to refresh my fuel since I believe it to be the cause of my loss of power. I have already replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, oil, blades and belts. Still, when I start it up and then turn the mower on, I lose power. Any ideas? How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?check the gas line. if it gets clogged, it will cause the problem you describe. How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?Not sure that fuel is your problem ... since it is starting all the time. But to remove old or stale gas ... located the fuel line and there should be a clip on it to pinch and remove, if not then you have to take the fuel tank off. Most of them have a pair of slots that each end that the tank fits into to.

In my opinion, I would change the oil you are using. I assume you are using a straight 10w30 or 10w40. Sounds like the piston may have scorched the walls and is not sliding freely, I would change to a synthetic oil first and see if you see any improved power.

I know it sounds costly but you may need some new rings and boreing.

I would switch the oil first and see if that helps before attacking fuel lines ...How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?I don't believe the problem is the fuel. I would think more about bad bearings in a belt pulley since it loses power when put into the mowing operation. Something is putting a strain on the engine when you do this. How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?The gas should run freely out of the hose. Try taking the gas cap off. If it runs freely with the cap off, the vent in the cap could be plugged. This could also be the cause of power loss. Do the blades turn freely? Also check for side to side/up and down movement. Any movement other than around could indicate bad bearings in the blade spindles or quills as some call them. This could cause binding under a load. They should spin freely and quietly with no other play. How do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?Well, thats the problem right there, you have to remove the filter - better yet go buy some new gasline from autoparts store , a shutoff valve, and a new see thru filter ( can tell when its dirty). Since thats dirty, you might as well remove the carburator and clean it as well.

KiddHow do you drain fuel from a craftsman riding mower? I tried removing the filter, but only got a dribble.?the fuel is carb, take off all the lines and blow thru them to get any debris out of them. take the carb off and make sure there isn't anything like grass inside of it, it's probably a good chance you've never washed it? you can also wash all the dirt and debris away from everything with a pressure washer and then use a sponge to clean out the carb, make sure you don't have any standing water.... water doesn't burn, but then again I always flame the carb after I sponge it to get everything out, or evaporate it.... make sure you don't have the gas tank close nor anything where there is gas (it does burn) try that first, if that doesn't help you've probably have a valve loose or the spark plug has the wrong gap. That's all I have for you for a minute, but if it doesn't work, and you still want to mess with it? It could be as simple as the cable to your drive train or the cable for the fuel? don't second guess it, if it has fire and fuel it runs, incorrect fuel, fire, oxygen could cause an explosion.

Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?

Also, is one brand of fuel filter better than another? Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?Jack up the rear of the vehicle, or raise it up on a lift. The fuel filter is located rearward of the fuel tank, but forward of the right/rear wheel. It's always best to replace with OEM filter. At $9.74 (part number FG-986-B from Ford), price shouldn't be an issue. The following are the steps for removal and installation.

    Disconnect the evaporative emission pipe.

Remove the fuel filter outlet pipe.

Disconnect the fuel filter inlet pipe.

Remove the 8mm bolt securing the fuel filter and bracket to the body of the vehicle.

    Remove the fuel filter.

    Remove the 7mm bolt.

    Slide out the fuel filter.

    Installation

NOTE: Observe the direction of flow arrow.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Hope this helps. Can anyone point me to a link on how to change the fuel filter on my Ford Focus?Fuel filters are different sizes, but the one you have can be blown backward with high pressure air- and re-installed.

The round filter uses two pressure fittings that only need be unscrewed. The filter is on the side of the frame between the

rear tank and the front seats.

Replace it or blow it out- most likely it is not a problem- they only need replacing if someone dumped sugar in your tank.

Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sputters when I step on the gas. It stalled this morning when I was idling at a stop light but started right back up again. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Is the fuel filter located in the gas tank? If anyone can give me a walk-through on how to change the fuel filter and/or pump, I would greatly appreciate it.Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo? The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. To change the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank.

There is an inline fuel filter that is not so hard to change. Try that first. It is located near the fuel tank under the rear of the Jeep.

Stalling at idle is more likely caused by a dirty idle speed control solenoid. This can be cleaned by spraying throttle body cleaner into the little slot near the throttle plate inside the throttle body.

Before servicing the fuel pump or filter, you need to test the fuel pressure. Many auto parts stores have loaner tools available or they may check it for you. The tool consists of a pressure gage that connects to the fuel pressure test port. Normal pressure for the aniline six is around 40psi. A faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause the problems you are seeing as well.

If you do remove the fuel pump form the tank, pay close attention to he rubber hose that connects the pump to the lines. I just had a time tracking down a mystery fuel pressure problem in a Cherokee that turned out to be a pin hole in that little rubber hose.

It's usually behind the motor, near the windshield. Once you know where it is, disconect the hose from both sides of the filter with a screwdriver and place the new one. tight them well, but not overtightened.

-(The filter has an out and an intake flow, make sure you don't reverse those when placing the new one).

-(The hose will have a certain gasoline pressure if your car uses a gas pump, so be careful with your eyes).

-(When you have the old one out, blow through it from the same way gasoline flows and see if it's blocked. Blow the new one too so you can see the difference. If the old one was kind of blocked or dirty, but it wasn't the problem of your car, at least you replaced a not so good filter).

If the lines are metal, you will need to spill a bit of fuel at the filter end, but a rag will do nicely. ***Remember to disconnect the battery prior to service, as power to the fuel sending unit will cause it to push fuel up the line to the engine, causing much more leakage and a dangerous hazard to you and the environment***How do I change a fuel filter?Have to know more info. Fuel injection or carb? Make and model also. Letting the gas leak is asking for a fire and possible injury. How do I change a fuel filter? There are usually no fuel shut off valves on fuel lines. (except on some tractor trailer fuel tanks)

If you have a leaking tank you need to get all of the fuel out of it and fix/replace it or you are a moving bomb waiting for a spark to blow you up!

I assume you've found the fuel filter? (It can be anywhere in the fuel line depending on make and model.) It is usually held in a clamp and has the 2 fuel lines clamped to it. Have the new filter ready and waiting to be installed. (make sure you can see the arrow or marking that shows which way to mount it as filters are one way only.) Unclamp one line from the old filter and pull the line off of the filter. (I always disconnect the line from the filter to the engine first as the old dirty filter will restrict the flow of fuel from the tank somewhat and minimize the spilled gas.) Put your finger over the end that is towards the fuel tank and push the removed line onto the proper end of the new filter. (make sure you have the loosened clamp on the line) Now remove the other clamp and line from the old filter and push them onto the other end of the new filter. Tighten the clamps and put the filter back into its holder. Messy, but all done.

Note: if you have a fuel injection system, you might need to bleed it off before changing the filter. A repair manual for your make and model will say if that is needed and how to do it. (Chilton and Haynes, sold at local auto parts stores, make the best repair manuals for the backyard mechanic.)

How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?

So for the last few days when I'm at a stop light or sign, then try to accelerate, it's like my car (98 mercury tracer) wants to die. I was told by some random guys in the parking lot of the mall that it's most likely my fuel filter, and that it's possible to change it myself, because of the location of it.I want to try to do this, and if it doesn't work, bring it to my usual shop and get a %26quot;tune up%26quot;, just basically change filters and stuff. First question, can someone explain to me how to change a fuel filter? And my second question, how much does a tune up cost? I'm so lost! How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?Buy the Hayes or Chilton book and you can do all that yourself. I don't know where the filter is on your car; but get underneath your car and look for a fuel line coming out of the gas tank. Follow that line until you see it. you may want to buy it first at Autozone so you know what it looks like. They're easy to change, you just pull the lines out of it from both size.

You can change spark plugs easily as well or spend $75 at a mechanic. That's about all there is to a tuneup these days. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?It could be the fuel filter but it could also be the plugs. Instead of taking advice here go to the auto parts store and buy a %26quot;Chilton's%26quot; book for your particular model of car. It will tell you how to change the filter or at least show you where it is and you can figure it out from there. While there ask the parts guy what a tune up consists of and then ask for a parts price list. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?It could also be spark plug wires. If it's an intermittent problem -- for example when it's damp outside -- it could be a bad spark plug wire. Very easy to change. Depending on your engine, the cost should be $20 - $60 for a set.

In regard to tune-ups, they don't consist of much anymore. Fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, and possibly spark plug wires. If you have more than 60k miles, I would try the wires also. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?to change a fuel filter on the newer cars its not so simple.you would be better off getting it replaced at the same time as the tune up .the fuel filter should be a part of the tune up on most cars.the f/filter may not be the cause of your hesitation .it could be the fuel injectors (if the car is equipped with them) take to your local shop and have it checked. How to change a fuel filter, AND what's the cost of a tune up?MIA please you just asking this questions well you wont be able to do this job. So if you live in the LOS ANGELES AREA I will be more then happy to show you how to replace the fuel filter.

I have a Chevy Lumina and it's riding rough, most likely a fuel filter issue. I just replaced the battery and know the oil and fluids are okay, but the filter hasn't been changed since I got the car.

  • How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?

I recently purchased a 98 ford windstar. sometimes when I start it up it idles really rough and occasionally dies. when I am stopped (in gear) and I give it a little gas, the tackometer goes up, and then down under 500 rpms and the oil light flickers. it runs fine once I get moving, it's just when I am stopped or going really slow. I was going to put fuel injector cleaner in, but I figured I would check the fule filter too. is there any way to tell if it needs to be replaced? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?i would give this baby a complette tune up air filter pcv valve a gas filter plugs and wires and cap and then you know what you got going on under the hood . plus your transmission might need flushed unless you have a record of the last flush .How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Since you don't know the mileage on the fuel filter a good gauge is power under load. If you are accelerating and it misses or does not have power that is usually the fuel filter. Because the engine is starving for gas. What you are describing is not fuel filter. How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?but a filter doesnt cost much.. so do it if you think it needs it. I agree with the guy above/below idk.. eather wayHow do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Check the maintenance record on your Windstar. If it still has the original fuel filter on it then have it replaced. If you do replace it, DO NOT use fuel injector cleaner on it until you've had a chance to run a full tank of gas through that filter -- injector cleaner can damage brand new fuel filters. From personal experience I can tell you that I follow my father's advice and have had my fuel filter replaced in every vehicle I've driven every 50,000 miles and have never had a problem. Some people may say that's overkill, but it's not that expensive to change out a fuel filter and a clogged fuel filter can leave you stranded on the side of the road somewhere, so why take the chance? How do I know when it is time to change my fuel filter?Good answer LesterM

How do you fix or replace a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport?

Can someone tell me how to fix or replace the fuel filter on my 2000 explorer, so that it doesn't cost a fortune at a mechanic?

Consult an owners manual for the exact procedure. It depend on which engine it uses. However, it may have other problems. Just putting on a fuel filter may not fix your problem. There are about 100 different things that can cause what you are describing. It really should be diagnosed by a competent, knowledgeable mechanic. It will cost money, but so will throwing parts at it. Especially if it's the 100th part that fixes it.How do you fix or replace a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport?dosen,t sound like a fuel filter. better take it inHow do you fix or replace a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport? If you want to change the filter it will only cost you about 15 dollers and that is the cheepest thing to start with but I would stop with that because like the other fellow said you could be throwing money out the window trying to find out what it is.

The first thing you want to do is find the fuel rail releif valve it looks like a tire valve stem then take a small screw driver and push in on the little needle and make sure you don't get any gas in y our eyes because some will come out not much but some, then y ou have to find the fuel filter on the frame rail and it will be on the driver side just behind the driver seat after you locate it then you have to squeeze two plastic release tabs on either side of the filter where the fuel line goes in when you squeeze them pull the line out and then replace with new one.;How do you fix or replace a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport? You may have problems other that the fuel filter but thats a good place to start. The fuel filter is a cannister type located on the frame rail usually the drivers side. Depending on where the vehicle was assembled will determine what retaining clips are used. Some are small white plastic clips that simply slide out by pulling the tab back with a small screwdriver. The other type requires a spring lock release tool ($10 ?) that closes around the fuel line and pushes in to release the spring lock. Installation either way is reverse. Be careful using the spring lock release tool. If you damage the spring clips inside you are looking at $150 for a new fuel line section from Ford.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited? Also what's the cost to get it replaced?

How can I tell if my gas tank as just water in the tank or if the fuel filter needs to be changed? yes change the fuel filter you need wrenches or quick disconnect line

costs like 9.95 or a little more

everyone has water in the tank ,just some more than others.

How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?

The brass screw broke with me while trying to unscrew the fuel filter in order to fit a new one.Another question is,why is this screw in brass, has to be a reason I am sure. They are expensive to replace, partly the error for braking was i overtightened the screw.

Hope someone will help me on these two points, especially the main question.

Thank you.How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter? It's made of brass because is a very stable alloy. It copes very well with hot and cold, doesn't rust and doesn't break down in the presence of fuel, oil or lubricants. You could tape it up but i doubt it would be very effective. Don't forget that diesel is an oil, and oil and tape don't go together. It won't do any harm but would probably leak badly. Best to get it replaced. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?I always replace my fuel filter clamps with jubilee clips as they are stronger and tighter than the original which normally the manufacturer has a specialist tool for. Just tape it as a temporary measure until you can get some small jubilee clips from a DIY store and fit these before you drive. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?Diesel's practically impossible to light outside of a high compression environment , so there's no hazard to you. Just consider the amount of diesel that's coming out (have a look when the pumps running) and think about the slipping danger for any motorbikes. Plus the cost! How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?Tape is not a good idea because diesel in the fuel lines in pressurised and will come off in no time. I would not risk it even though it is not as flammable as petrol, try and find a more secure method.

Have you replaced the filter only you never mentioned in your question, jubilee clips would be a more secure method. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?it will suck air and not run using tapeHow safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?I'm afraid it won't work. First of all the tape will be attacked by the diesel and secondly it will not seal tightly enough to prevent air being entrained. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?I don't know about the brass screw but petroleum fuel is a solvent to the adhesive on all tapes that I know of. Replace your clamps before driving or you might well go up in flames. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?A permanent pipe connector called a Sea Green connector is what you want.it is a fairly thick and stiff plastic and supplied with two nuts which are tapered inside and has a large screw thread ;,the nut is screwed on to the pipe and compresses it,I have never heard of one fail. How safe for a temporay measure only is the taping of a fuel ,diesel ,pipe to the fuel filter?tape will be useless as diesel is pumped under pressure and vehicle will not run properly as it will suck air

Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?

Got the fuel filter its the right model just dont know where and how to change it, thanks in advanceWhere to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?I own a shop, and yours is one that is on the frame rail (drivers side) about half way between the engine, and fuel tank. It is best to raise the front of the vehicle to keep the fuel from running out. Look in the fuse box, find the fuse that says %26quot;fuel pump%26quot;, remove it before you attempt to replace the filter, as some pumps will run some even when the ignition switch is in the off mode. Look at the filter, and you will see a place for a wrench on both ends of the filter, so find something that fits it. Look at the fuel line, and find a good tight fitting wrench that fits the line. It is best to use a line wrench for this, but a good tight fitting wrench usually works ok. Remove the strap around the filter, and find something to catch fuel in. Remove the front (towards the engine) line first, pay close attention to the end of the line where it goes into the filter, there should be an o-ring on the line, so don't loose or damage it. When the fuel has stopped draining, remove the rear line, and turn the filter to where it (as well as the line) can drain into the container, and not all over you. Doing this job is a serious fire hazzard, so it's best to do outside in the fresh air, and be careful about making any sparks. Once the old filter is off, look at the new one to make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. There should be one end of the filter that tells you the direction of flow by an arrow, or letter that says %26quot;IN, or OUT%26quot;. In would be towards the tank, and out towards the front of the vehicle. Make sure the o-ring is in place, and attach the rear line, but don't tighten it yet. Slide the clamp over the filter that holds it to the frame rail making sure it is correct, but don't attach to frame yet. Install the front line making sure the o-ring is in place. Now you can attach the clamp that holds the filter to the frame, and tighten down. Hold the filter with one wrench, and tighten the rear line. You will find it easy to tighten by mashing the two wrenches together. Tighten the front line in the same fashion, and install the fuse back in its place. Turn the ignition switch to the on position, but don't start the engine, and check the connections of the line by rubbing with your fingers to see if they are wet, if so the lines are not tight enough or the o-ring is bad. Once you are satisfied there is no leaks, start the engine, and check for leaks again. If there are no leaks, you are good to go.

Glad to help out, Good luck!!!Where to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham?if you have a small round filter about 2 inchs long and 1 inch wide it goes into the front of ur carb lift of the air cleaner and u will see it good luckWhere to locate and how to change a fuel filter on a 1987 Oldsmobile 88 Royal Brougham? You have to either lift the car or jack it up on the LR corner. The filter is just in front of the LR wheel right on the uni-body. All you have to do is install a 13/16 and a 5/8 wrench on the filter and the nut and loosen both ends. Then finish taking the nuts out of the filter and wiggle the filter out. Reverse to install. Careful, pressurized gas inside. Good luck.

I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?

There is a little cup with clips on either side holding my fuel filter in. My manual said to squeeze the clips while pushing the filter in, then pull the filter out. When I squeezed the clips, they broke. How do I remove my fuel filter now and do I need those clips for the new filter to be held in properly?I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?you probably did it as the manual suggested, but they still broke. The plastic they make these clips out of isn't very good quality. Depending on the filter you buy to replace the old one, it should come with clips that you can use as a replacement. I know from experience that Fram and Puralator filters both do. The best way to get the old filter out is to take a small screwdriver and carefully, without doing any more damage to the cup, finish prying out the old clip and slide the filter out. The new one that comes with the filter should work just fine to hold the filter in. Hope this helps!I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?you need a new filterI'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire? You will have to buy the special tool for that will release the plastic clip.I'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?yes you need those clips, thats what holds the fuel filter to the frame. get plastic electrical wire ties to wire to the frameI'm trying to change the Fuel filter on my 1999 pontiac sunfire?I just squeeze the 2 clips together with a pair on needle nose pliers and pull it off, the new filter will have a new clip with it.
