The first thing you want to do is find the fuel rail releif valve it looks like a tire valve stem then take a small screw driver and push in on the little needle and make sure you don't get any gas in y our eyes because some will come out not much but some, then y ou have to find the fuel filter on the frame rail and it will be on the driver side just behind the driver seat after you locate it then you have to squeeze two plastic release tabs on either side of the filter where the fuel line goes in when you squeeze them pull the line out and then replace with new one.;How do you fix or replace a fuel filter on a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport? You may have problems other that the fuel filter but thats a good place to start. The fuel filter is a cannister type located on the frame rail usually the drivers side. Depending on where the vehicle was assembled will determine what retaining clips are used. Some are small white plastic clips that simply slide out by pulling the tab back with a small screwdriver. The other type requires a spring lock release tool ($10 ?) that closes around the fuel line and pushes in to release the spring lock. Installation either way is reverse. Be careful using the spring lock release tool. If you damage the spring clips inside you are looking at $150 for a new fuel line section from Ford.
