How do you disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter on a 1997 F150.?

I have the special tool but am not sure how to use it.How do you disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter on a 1997 F150.?Insert the plastic 'c' shaped tool onto filter/line connection. Push tool TOWARD THE LINE, while pulling the line AWAY from the filter AT THE SAME TIME. Repeat this step for the other side. During installation of the new filter, simply connect the line to the filter an press, until you hear the 'click'. I know its a weird looking connection and without that tool you will be wasting your time.
