I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. We are going to change the fuel filter. I am told a couple things. First, it's hard because on my model it is above the fuel tank and second, that there is a special tool for removing the filter. Any information on how to properly replace the filter and what this tool looks like would be great. Pictures would also be appreciated. Thank you! What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?its called a ford quick relese tool, go to any parts store and say what you need, they will have it, it is however a pain in the butt, because you will wrestle with it if youve never done itWhat kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?its like a bike chain on a lever that has a handle and has you turn it it tightens
i think they are called oil filter removers i know it isn't a fuel filter but i think it is the same thing to be honestWhat kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?I don't think that there is any special tool to remove a fuel filter, but I bet if there is it isn't an oil filter tool! If it is above the fuel tank, you may have to drop the fuel tank to get to it. I've never seen a fuel filter that needed any special tool to remove it.What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter?First... If you change the filter, make sure the key is off. You will have fuel leaking, the fuel lines are under 60psi of pressure.
Secound... Raising the vehicle will make life much easier, if you do it on the ground you will get soaked in fuel.
Third... One side of the filter should be threaded and the other a quick clip. The threaded side should be a 3/4 wrench and a 5/8 wrench. Their is a special tool for the quick clip, but you can manage with a pair of needle nose plyers.
Have fun and dont smoke while doing this! What kind of tool is used to remove a fuel filter? You do not really need any special tool ,if you are familiar with how it works you can get it off with a small screwdriver or some needlenose pliars. The tool is very inexpensive and if you have never done it then go and get you one. Just ask for a fuel line disconnect tool for your vehicle. Dont forget to look at the arrow and install the filter the right direction - sometimes they can hook up either way sometimes only one way.
